Annotations for Places: Japan

Of course, as I come from a rather ambiguous background, I want to refer to Eastern culture. It’s not really relevant here, but just a small point. For many centuries in China and Japan—perhaps this will help to open discussion—not this exact topic, but in relation to the problem of tradition, of the imported and the national. In China and Japan, for many years the method for artists to paint consisted precisely in copying the masters—copying the great masters.

Desde luego, claro, como soy de una extracción bastante ambigua, quiero referirme sobre la cultura oriental. Que no viene al caso, pero solamente un pequeño dato. Durante muchos siglos en China y en Japón—tal vez esto sirva para que se pueda discutir—no este tema sino en relación a este problema de la tradición- de lo importado y de lo nacional. En China y en Japón, durante muchos años el método para pintar de los artistas consistía justamente en copiar a los maestros; copiar a los grandes maestros.
