In the Andean countries, on the other hand, as I have just said, the expressive pendulum has swung more clearly between the pastiche of the European or the North American and the containment of autochthonous material. In different and analogous ways, this alternative has singularized the evolution of the visual arts in some countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Mexico. If on the one hand there has always been Western art, on the other, stubborn, unbearable, sometimes almost unbearable, is our reality.
